Day 3.3 Mom & Dad's First Home on Bleile Road - Hamburg, PA

Back Bleile Family

The stone house below, which was across the street from the main farm house was where I spent the first year or so of my life. It was on the corner of Bleile Road, Hamburg PA - YES; I actually entered Bleile Road into my Sprint Navigation phone and it directed us right to Bleile Road! Pretty cool.

This was the 250 acre farm that my Granddad bought after selling the 75 acre farm in Gilbertsville, PA. When I was 15 1/2 and visited the farm and worked it for 2 weeks there were several barns, gardens, corrals, and other storage buildings that are all gone now. In fact the current owner of the stone house told me that the barn that was there when I was 15 1/2 was recently sold and moved down the road to one of their friends that had horses and wanted the barn.

Amazingly, the current owner also left us go in the house and look around. We got to see how things were set up now. I also remember that the side of the exterior of the house was a stucco finish. The owner said that they recently shipped off all the stucco and the beautiful stone walls, over 12" thick, were what was left. She said that she believed that the stone exterior many years ago was thought to be lower class so everyone stucco'd over the stone. Today, it is just the opposite.

The house is small and they are in the process of adding onto the house. The only structure left across the street from the house is the stone milk house.
